Nantes is a city in western France that is known for its rich history and vibrant arts scene. It is often overlooked by travelers who prefer to visit Paris or other major French cities, but it offers a unique and unforgettable experience for those who venture beyond the well-trodden tourist paths.

I recently spent a weekend in Nantes and was immediately charmed by its friendly people, beautiful architecture, and delicious food. Here are some of the highlights of my trip:

Le Château des Ducs de Bretagne:

This impressive castle is the centerpiece of Nantes and a must-visit for any history buff. It was built in the 15th century by the Dukes of Brittany and served as their home for over 300 years. Today, it houses the Musée d'Histoire de Nantes, which tells the story of the city from its earliest days to the present. The castle is also a popular spot for concerts and other events.

Cathédrale Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul:

This beautiful cathedral is located in the heart of Nantes and is one of the most important Gothic buildings in France. It was built over a period of several centuries, and its architecture reflects the different styles of the time. Le Jardin des Plantes:

The airport is located about 8 kilometers from the city center, and there is a direct bus line that connects the airport to the city.

Getting Around Nantes:

Nantes is a very walkable city, and most of the major attractions are located within easy walking distance of each other. The city also has a good public transportation system, which includes buses, trams, and a river shuttle. The public transportation system is affordable and easy to use.

Planning Your Trip to Nantes:
